About the Creators

Adam Bentley

Adam Bentley, the face of #yegfilm, is an Amiskwaciwâskahikan (ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ ) (Edmonton)-based screenwriter, filmmaker, and producer. He produces video works on anxiety and distance in an era of climate breakdown and isolation. His works have been funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council, Calgary Arts Development, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Edmonton Heritage Council. He was also short-listed for Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program. His works have been screened at film festivals across Canada, and on every continent except Antarctica. His work has also been featured on Air Canada and CBC Television. When not writing or filming, he can be found sipping espresso.

Paula E. Kirman

Paula E. Kirman (MLIS, B.Ed) is a lifelong Edmontonian who is a writer, editor, photographer, filmmaker, musician, and community organizer. She is a freelance communications professional and digital storyteller who works mostly with non-profit organizations and community media. Paula has received numerous awards for her community and media work, including the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal and Human Rights Champion award from the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights. Her Jewish heritage often informs Paula’s artistic work. Away from the laptop and cameras, Paula enjoys walking, reading non-fiction, enjoying music (both live and recorded), drinking coffee, and spending time with family and friends.

Bar Lavy

Born in Israel and raised across four countries, Bar Lavy brings a truly global perspective to every frame he creates. His passion for film and photography began in early childhood, where countless hours in front of the TV sparked a lifelong fascination with visual storytelling.

Armed with a B.A. in Film Studies from the University of Alberta, Bar has built a diverse body of work that spans short films, web series, music videos, photo shoots, TV pilots, and commercial productions. His projects have screened internationally, most recently in Japan and Thailand.

Beyond his own filmmaking, Bar is deeply committed to uplifting other artists. He has held a variety of roles in film festivals across Canada, helping create unique spaces where cinema can be truly embraced and enjoyed.

Gareth Gilliland

A thoughtful guitarist, composer, and producer – Gareth Gilliland’s approach to music unifies genres and puts an emphasis on multi-disciplinary collaboration. Gareth plays and records all over Canada, joining large and small group jazz, country, rock, and hip-hop ensembles. In addition to his live performances, Gareth co-organizes the weekly community event and jam New Standards every Wednesday evening in Edmonton. Inspired by the diverse approaches of Bill Frisell, Christian Scott, and Jeff Parker, Gareth honours the mosaic of Black American Music and ventures forth to find his own voice through composition and performance.
